Here is a synopsis of crimes reported in Nelson County from Aug. 12 to Aug. 30 from the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office:
Two of four schools miss targets for AYP
Middle school math tripped up Nelson and Amherst County school divisions, causing both systems to not meet increasing standards set by the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
Courthouse plans near completion
The Nelson County Board of Supervisors received an updated design of the new courthouse and government facilities for Nelson County at the Aug. 28 meeting.
Panel gives OK for two towers
The Nelson County Planning Commission recommended approval last week for two 130-foot communication towers, on which a company plans to install cell phone antennas.
Advocates to seek library expansion
Advocates will study how to expand Nelson Memorial Library which, at 4,361 square feet, is half the size recommended by state guidelines, a library official said.

Nelson man faces meth charges
A Lovingston man out on bond for previous drug charges was arrested Friday after Nelson County deputies found more than a pound and a half of methamphetamine at his residence, the sheriff said on Monday.
