The reported Sept. 29 kidnapping and carjacking of a Waynesboro man along Virginia 6 in Nelson County is still being investigated by the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office.

Christopher Beverly, 30, was driving east on Virginia 6 that morning when two men flagged him down, Nelson County Sheriff David Brooks said, and took him on a drive that covered more than 80 miles, spanned four counties and lasted more than two hours.

“He said they were waving their arms like something was wrong” when they two flagged down Beverly, Brooks said.

When Beverly pulled over, one man brandished a handgun and jumped into the front seat while the other jumped into the back seat of Beverly’s white Toyota Camry.

The sheriff’s office released composite sketches of the two suspects last week. Brooks said Beverly described the men as black, both six feet tall with no facial hair. One man was bald and the other had his hair in cornrows, Beverly told investigators.

Beverly said the suspects told him to keep driving after they entered the vehicle and directed him to turn south onto U.S. 29 and into Amherst County, where they took U.S. 60 east into Buckingham and Appomattox counties.

At Duck’s Store, located at the intersection of U.S. 60 and Va. 56, the suspects met up with what Beverly described as a “dirty white” pickup truck.

Beverly could not provide a make or tag numbers, Brooks said.

From there, the suspects directed Beverly to follow the pickup west on Va. 56 and back into Nelson County, he told investigators.

At the intersection of Va. 56 and Eagle Mountain Road in Shipman, Beverly told investigators the suspects forced him out of the car before they continued onto Eagle Mountain Road.

Beverly contacted his mother, who took him to the sheriff’s office to report the incident around 2 p.m., Brooks said.

A delivery truck driver reported finding Beverly’s vehicle over an embankment a short while later. Beverly was not robbed, and nothing was stolen the vehicle.

“Everything is still a little foggy and we’re looking into the matter,” Brooks said.

The sheriff’s office asked that anyone with information call (434) 263-7050.
