The Nelson County Board of Supervisors received an updated design of the new courthouse and government facilities for Nelson County at the Aug. 28 meeting.
Randy Vaughn of Wiley & Wilson Inc., a Lynchburg-based architectural firm, said that the site plans and designs are 95 percent complete and that the project is estimated to cost the county $11.17 million total.
Supervisors also heard about funding options available for the project from Roland Kooch of Davenport and Co., a Richmond-based financial planning company, and will make a decision on the project at their Sept. 9 meeting.
Drought Declaration
The supervisors passed a resolution at the Aug. 28 meeting asking Gov. Timothy M. Kaine to declare the county a drought disaster area.
Federal drought-related aid would become available with the declaration for local agriculture businesses that have been affected by the drought.
Public Hearing
The supervisors scheduled a public hearing on amendments to the county’s subdivision, zoning and individual septic ordinances to be held on Oct. 14.
The public hearing will be held to receive public comment on the proposed changes.
