The Nelson County Public Schools system was presented with four $500 educational grants from Tiger Fuel Company of Lovingston this week.
‘We are extremely pleased to again the the recipient of this extra instructional supply money.’
— Roger Collins,
Nelson County Division Superintendent
Each of the four schools in the Nelson County School Division will receive a grant to be used to purchase supplies that would not normally have funds available to purchase, Nelson County Division Superintendent Roger Collins said.
The grants were organized by Ron Moyer, president and general manager of the Moyer Division of Tiger Fuel Company, and distributed through the Exxon Mobile Coorporation Educational Alliance Program.
Moyer said he has been applying for these grants for the schools for several years.
“I keep hitting luck every year and getting them,” Moyer said. “I wouldn’t miss it for anything in the world.”
The grants are distributed on a first come, first serve basis by Exxon Mobile, Moyer said. And he makes sure he’s at the front of the line every year.
Collins said in past years, the grant monies were used to purchase math supplies.
“We are extremely pleased to again the the recipient of this extra instructional supply money,” Collins said. “Mr. Moyer’s diligence in securing the funds is appreciated.”
Moyer, a Nelson County native, said he “just thinks it’s the right thing to do” for the schools he grew up in.
“If I can help out the school system, I’m going to do it.” Moyer said.
