Two new members began their terms with the Nelson County Economic Development Authority at the Aug. 7 meeting.
Bennett Saunders of Saunders Brothers Nursery & Orchard in Piney River, and Emily Pelton of Veritas Vineyards and Winery in Afton, were appointed to the authority by the Nelson County Board of Supervisors in July.
The authority was updated by Maureen Corum on the Virginia Broadband Planning Initiative.
The county received a $45,000 grant in June for Phase III. This phase will be a final study scheduled to be finished by December, Corum said.
“If you want to grow the county without bringing in industry, you have to do it with professional individuals,” member Nat Hall said.
“And for that you need broadband.”
Alphonso Taylor, past chairman of the authority, was named the new treasurer at the Aug. 7 meeting. Taylor replaces Stu Armstrong.
