The Nelson County Board of Supervisors abandoned several streets and alleys not in the state highway system that surround the courthouse square at their Sept. 25 meeting.
Portions of streets mapped out on the original plat of Lovingston were abandoned in anticipation of the upcoming renovation and new construction to the Nelson County courthouse property.
Supervisors were also updated on the status of a possible solid waste collection site in Schuyler along Virginia 617.
Nelson County Administrator Steve Carter said it would cost the county a minimum of $5,400 to move a family cemetery that lies on the site.
He said the move would also require approval from the family or through legal means.
The Nelson County Economic Development Authority passed a resolution on Sept. 25 to act as the bond-issuing body for the county during the courthouse project.
The Nelson County Planning Commission approved the site plan for the county’s courthouse project and judicial facility at a Sept. 23 meeting.
