Burleigh Mallone Dalton, 73, of Madison Heights, died on Feb. 9. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Harris Dalton.
Born March 27, 1934, in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Ernest and Rosa Thornhill Dalton. He was retired from Lynchburg General Hospital as a Maintenance Mechanic and was of Lutheran Faith.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Danny Ray Neighbors, and a brother, Walter Dalton.
Survivors also include three children, Belinda Swecker and husband, Butch, of Glen Allen, Tracy Ference and husband, George, of Austin, Texas, and Terry Dalton and wife Betty, of Rocky Mount; two brothers, Ernest L. Dalton, of Lynchburg and Bobby Dalton, of Ocala, Fla.; two sisters, Corrinne Cohen and husband George, of Lynchburg and Barbara Towler, of Ocala, Fla.; four grandchildren, Tina Swecker, Tonya Pruden, Jared and Scott Ference and a great-granddaughter; and other relatives and friends.
A graveside service was conducted on Feb. 12 at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Pauline North Turner Harris, 84, died Feb. 9. Twice married, she was preceded in death in 1968 by her first husband, James Carson Turner then in 1992 by her second husband Lucian Mortimer Harris.
Born June 29, 1923 she was a daughter of the late Phillip Eck North and the late Kate Warrick North Miller. She was a lifelong resident of the New Glasgow community of Amherst County, a 1941 graduate of the Amherst County High School, worked as an X-Ray Technician at the American Cyanamid Plant in Piney River for 29 years until the plant closed, and retire from Sweet Briar College as the bookkeeper in the food services division. She was a charter and faithful member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church and also enjoyed fellowship with the congregation of Wesleyan Untied Methodist Church, the church of her childhood and St. Mark's Episcopal Church at Clifford, the church of her husband, Bill Harris.
She was a 50+ year member and former Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star chapter #115 of Amherst, a member of the Amherst Woman's Club, member of the Amherst Lords and Ladies, and an avid bridge player, playing in several groups and at the Amherst Senior Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Onormorreer Turner Dowdy and husband Herbert of Coleman Falls; a brother, Robert H. North and wife Ruby of Evington; a sister-in-law, Mary W. North of Tye River; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Alex (Neil), Odell, James and Gordon, and five sisters, Marnie, Essie, Helen, Ruth and Katherine.
Funeral services were conducted Feb. 11 at Driskall Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Amherst Cemetery.

Helen Hughes, of Nellysford, died on Feb. 8.
She was the daughter of James and Antigone Ladas and was born in Evanston, Ill. on Aug. 6, 1929. Before moving to Virginia, she lived in Delray Beach and Boynton Beach in Florida and the Town of Poughkeepsie and Hurley, in New York.
She was a real estate agent with Canterbury Realtors in the Town of Poughkeepsie and a certified public accountant and partner with Ward, Hughes and Clark PA CPA in Delray Beach, Fla. She was a member of the Hurley Garden Club and the Master Gardeners of Nelson County.  She was also an active member of the Nelson County Historical Society. On Sept. 20, 1949 she married Marshall Hughes, who died June 1991.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Karen Hughes; her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Doug Davis; her son and daughter-in-law, James and Elizabeth Hughes; her daughter and son-in-law, Josephine and David Lewis; eight grandchildren, Faith, Cassandra, Harley, James, Nichole, Natalie, Marshall and Nora; brother-in-law, Steve Gallas; and two nieces.
A celebration of her life will be held at her home in Nellysford from 1 to 5pm on Feb. 16.

Betty Jo Whiteside-Hurst Jett, 80, of Lynchburg, died on Feb. 4.
She is preceded in death by her brother, John Ray Whiteside, her nephew, Peter Michael Whiteside, and her great grandson, Robert Hitchcock MacGregor.
She is survived by her brother, Jimmy Hurst and his wife, Barbara, of Coalinga, Calif.; two sisters, Earline Fletcher, of Charlottesville and Kathleen Manuel, of Tampa, Fla.; seven children, Roy M. Jett Jr., of Waldwick, N.J., Linda J. Barnette, of Lynchburg, Cynthia J. Lesser, of Lynchburg, Rebecca J. Bragg and her husband, Ken, of Charlottesville, John A. Jett, of Panama City, Fla., Jacqueline Jett Davis and her husband, Mark, of Lynchburg, Robert E. Jett, of Covesville, and Deborah Bush, of Charlottesville; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren with the 12th on the way; and many nieces and nephews and friends.
 She was born June 12, 1927, in Beggs, Okla., daughter of the late Cleo Broyles Whiteside and the late Earl B. Whiteside. Her mother remarried Gordon Hurst and moved the family to Kettleman City, Calif., where she and her siblings were raised. She was a graduate of Lemoore High School and was married to the late Roy M. Jett Sr., who brought her to Virginia where she raised her family.
A memorial service was conducted on Feb. 9 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg.

Harris Allen Musick, 74, of Country Wood Road, Lynchburg, died Feb. 5. He was twice married. His first wife was the late Virginia Elizabeth Woody Musick and his second wife is Betty Wilder Coleman Musick.
Born in Illinois on March 9, 1933, he was a son of the late Ralph and Velma Robinson Musick.
He retired from the U.S. Navy after serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was a member of Glory Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Dale Musick and Jay and Susan Musick, all of Appomattox; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan M. and Danny Bapties, of Brookneal; a sister, Vida Latham, of California; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; four step-children, and six step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Allen Musick, a brother and a sister.
Funeral services were held Feb. 7 in Glory Baptist Church. Burial followed in Gladstone Cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 Honor Guard.

William Neal Patterson, of Lovingston, died.
He was a teacher in the Nelson County School System for 31 years.
He is survived by his daughter, LeeAnn Herndon, of El Dorado, Ark.; his son, Robert Neal Patterson, of New Orleans, La.; his sister, Lynn Strickland, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; a stepdaughter, Christy Viar, of Arrington; and four granddaughters.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Priscilla Sumrell.
He was born to Antoinette and Pat Patterson in 1945. He received his Masters in Education and moved to Lovingston shortly thereafter to inaugurate a new state sponsored industrial arts program to motivate Nelson County youth to remain in school to complete their secondary education.
A memorial service was conducted on Feb. 9 at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel.

Wade Hampton Pugh, 74, died on Feb. 3. He was the husband of Juanita Sensabaugh Pugh for 47 years.
Born Jan. 27, 1934, in Nelson County, he was a son of Emory Wood Pugh, of Rustburg, and the late Lawrence Watson Pugh. He was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church, retired from Lynchburg Foundry, and a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He is also survived by three sons, Michael R. Pugh and wife, Karen, of Forest, Robert L. Pugh and wife, Lisa, of Monroe, and Eddie W. Pugh, and wife, Kathy, of Madison Heights; two daughters, Renee P. Mays and husband, Jerry, of Amherst, and Tammy P. Cheatham and husband, Paul, of Monroe; three sisters, Doris P. Campbell and husband, William, of Rustburg, Edith P. Kelly and husband, John, of Earlysville, and Lucille Campbell, of Keswick; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jerry Mays Jr.
Funeral services were conducted Feb. 6 at Driskill Funeral Chapel. Burial followed in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Carrie Leigh Spencer, 17, of Moneta, died on Feb. 5.
She was born on July 14, 1990 and was a senior at Franklin County High School.
She is survived by her parents, Garry and Debra Spencer; sister, Caitlin Spencer; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Preston Spencer of Arrington; maternal grandparents, Glen Cooper and Margaret Cooper, both of Wirtz; great aunt, Mary Willie Spencer; aunts and uncles Tracy and Tracie Cooper, Theresa Cooper, Stacey and Sandy Cooper, Sheila and Rick Midkiff, Candice Cooper and Steven Schroeder, Betty and Bobby Brown, and Mary Ann and Harry Stone; cousins, Meg Brown, Spencer and John Huesdeck, Sam and Kirstin Stone and sons Brooks and Bensen, Brett Stone, Preston and Mindy Brown, Keith and Michael Cooper and daughters, Kylie and Kennedy, Greg Holland, Shane Cooper and Chris Cooper.
She planned to enter college in the fall to major in English and planned to become and English teacher.
Memorial services were conducted on Feb. 9 at Halesford Baptist Church.

John Clayton Thompson, 57, of Monroe, died Feb. 8.
Born Feb. 18, 1950 in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Nelson Thompson and Maxie Thompson. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Monroe, and a Quality Control Manager with Lynchburg Sheltered Industries for 32 years. He was also a member of the Elon Ruritan Club with over 30 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Elodie Taylor Thompson; a daughter, Meredith Suzanne Thompson, of Monroe; a son, John Clayton Thompson Jr. and wife, Catherine Elizabeth Thompson, of Monroe; two grandchildren, Brady Taylor Thompson and Madeline Elizabeth Thompson; five brothers, Percy R. Thompson, Russell L. Thompson, Malcolm Thompson, Layman Michael Thompson and Joe Thompson; three sisters, Mable Krantz, Mary Thompson and Mildred Thompson; and many close friends, nieces, nephews and other family members.
A memorial service was held on Feb. 10 at Bethany United Methodist Church in Monroe.

Betty Joyce Peek Webb, 78, of 200 Conner Road, Waynesboro died on Feb. 5.
She was born Sept. 7, 1929 in Dyer County, Tenn. She was the wife of James Webb of Waynesboro for 60 years. She was the daughter of Kathleen McCloud Peek of Dyersburg, Tenn. and the late Tom Peek. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Stuarts Draft.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca A. Webb, two brothers, Donald J. Peek and Tom Peek Jr. of Tenn.; and one sister, Jean Fleming.
Survivors include her mother and her husband; two daughters, Rosaland Webb of Waynesboro and Donna Joyce Webb of Pompano Beach, Fla.; sister, Nancy Craig of Dyersburg, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Keith A. Kessler and his wife Trish of Lynchburg, Kevin W. Kessler of Charlotte, N.C., Gratia Bobbitt and her husband Miles of Raphine, Martia Hevener and her husband Barry of Staunton, and David Showker IV of Staunton; and five great-grandchildren.
A service was conducted on Feb. 8 at Calvary United Methodist Church. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Shirley Saunders Wilson, 69, of Lynch Station, died Feb. 3.
She was born on July 13, 1938, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Jessie Luther Saunders and Bessie Missouri Spradlin Saunders.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Harden, John, Paul and Thomas Jefferson Saunders; and a sister, Bessie Robertson.
She was a retired employee of the Lane Company and was a member of Lynch Station Baptist Church.
Surviving are her sons, Harold Wilson Jr. of Okla. and Jessie Wilson Sr., and wife, Elaine, of Lynch Station; five brothers, Junior Saunders, Walter Saunders, both of Lynch Station, James Saunders, of Bedford County, Odell Saunders, of Hurt, and Jerry Price, of Bedford; seven grandchildren, Shannon Marie Wilson of N.C., Jason Edward Wilson, Edward Harold Wilson, Jessie Wilson Jr., both of Madison Heights, Patricia Wilson, of Chattanooga, Tenn., Hannah Wilson, Chelsea Wilson, both of Burlington, N.C.; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Feb. 8 at Updike Funeral Chapel in Huddleston. Interment followed in Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery.
