Captain Billy Frank Ballard, 81, of Nellysford, died on Jan. 11.
Born in Florence, Ala. on April 27, 1926, he was a son of the late James Clarence and Gracie Mae Reynolds Ballard. He was a retired U.S. Military Sealift Command, Pacific Captain, a U.S. Navy WWII veteran, and was also a member of VFW Post 7701.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Flora Withers Bryant Ballard; and numerous nieces, nephews, loving relatives and friends.
A graveside funeral service was conducted on Jan. 15 in Jonesboro Cemetery.

Isabelle Mae Barkley, 73, formerly of Lovingston, died on Jan. 3.
Born July 4, 1933, in Wintergreen, she was a daughter of the late Moses and Lottie Mae (Phillips) Hughes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Lee Phillips Sr.; her second husband, Forest A. Barkley; a sister, Margarette H. Wade; and a brother Donald Hughes.
She is survived by her son, Harold Lee Phillips Jr. and his wife, Angela, of Montvale; three sisters, Lois A. McGann, of Afton, Alice H. Smith, of N.C., and Daisy M. Henderson, of Waynesboro; three brothers, William D. Hughes, Lynwood J. Hughes, of Dooms and James J. Hughes, of Richmond; along with several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Jan. 17 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 West Main Street. A private interment service will take place in Salem.

Byron E. Bradley, 83, of Tyro, died on Jan. 8.
Born in Montebello, April 27, 1924, he was a son of the late Frank and Odelia Oliver Bradley. He was a retired storeowner and farmer. He was a member of Jonesboro Baptist Church, the Gideons and Oddfellows, and was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by one son, Robert, D. Bradley and his wife, Beth, of Roseland; three grand-daughters, Stefanie B. Copp, of Lynchburg, Amanda B. Bradley and Heather M. Bradley, both of Roseland; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Lewis Bradley, of Stuarts Draft and Bennett Randolph Bradley, of Waynesboro; two sisters, Mazie Jordan, of Tyro, and Naomi Balser, of Lyndhurst.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Hatter Bradley; a son, William Byron Bradley; six brothers, William, Golden, Charles, Martin, Berry Lee and Lawrence Bradley; and two sisters, Margie Grynkiewicz and Margaret Bradley.
A funeral service was conducted on Jan. 11 at Jonesboro Baptist Church. Burial with military honors followed in Jonesboro Cemetery.

Ora Stewart Cofflin, 91, of Lynchburg, died on Jan. 14. She was the wife of the late George W. Cofflin.
Born June 21, 1914, in Nelson County, she was the eldest and last surviving child of the late Guy Everett and Elsie Jones Stewart.
She was a retired employee of Consolidated Shoe Corporation and was employed by Craddock Terry Shoe Company for many years. She was a member of College Hill Baptist Church and taught Sunday School in the children's Department for over 30 years and also served as deaconess.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Everett Cofflin; three sisters, Inez Wood, Thelma Kahn and Alice Wright and her grandson, Greg Hudson.
She is survived by two daughters, Gloria C. Frye and husband Gary, of Lynchburg, and Joy C. Staples and husband, John H., of Rustburg, and two grandsons, Kenneth B. Hudson and wife, Barbara, of Memphis, Tenn., and Stephen A. Lawhorne, of Phenix.
A graveside service was held on Jan. 16 in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

William Henry Crawley Sr. died on Jan. 8.
He was born on Dec. 31, 1914, a son of the late David and Signora (Evans) Crawley, both of Madison Heights.
He was preceded in death by brothers, James Crawley and Louis Crawley and sisters, Irene Staley, Elizabeth (Lillie Bell) Crawley, Mary Markam and Lizzie Crawley.
He is survived by his wife Julia Alice Crawley, of Coleman Falls; daughter, Tilitha Wood-Kimble (Leroy), of Baltimore, Md.; son, Sir Milton Woody (Gladys), of Washington, D.C.; son, David Woody, of Lynchburg; son, Prinse William Crawley (Donna), of Rustburg; daughter, Vinane E. Adams (Wister), of Lynchburg; daughter, Veronica V. Morris (Michael), of Roanoke; a grandson, James Lloyd Jackson Jr., of Lynchburg; a granddaughter, Shantara S. Booker Carter (Andrew), of Lynchburg; and a host of other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service was conducted on Jan. 11 at Community Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in the Baptist Cemetery.

Hermine "Hermie" Fauver, of Tyro, died on Jan. 13.
Born in Vienna, Austria on Nov. 16, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Leopold Polansky and Hermine Inhauser Polansky.
She was a founding member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, former member of the Roseland Rescue Squad Auxiliary and had worked in food service at Wintergreen Resort.
She is survived by her son, Donald Fauver Jr.; three daughters, Florence Norwood, Karin Guardia and Sandra Etchison; one brother, Leopold Polansky of Vienna, Austria; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Warren Joseph Etchison.
A memorial service was held on Jan. 16 at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Tyro.

Betty Virginia Nuckols, 85 of Concord died on Jan. 8.
Born Oct. 9, 1922 in Warm Springs, she was a daughter of the late Dwight Kershner and Viola Jackson Kershner.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Milton M. Nuckols, a daughter, Alice Nuckols, and a son, Milton M. Nuckols Jr.
She was a member of Rock Baptist Church in Pamplin.
She is survived by six sons, Greg Nuckols and wife Trish of Shipman, Virgil Nuckols and wife Carolyn of Concord, Billy Nuckols and wife Betty of Manassas, Jim Nuckols and wife Janice of Concord, Rick Nuckols and wife Susan of Amherst, and Terry Nuckols and wife Debbie of Front Royal; three daughters, Betty Smith of Lovingston, Mamie Nuckols of Front Royal, and Joyce Mullins of Cumberland; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
A funeral service was held on Jan. 11 at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel in Lovingston. Interment followed in the Rocks Baptist Cemetery in Pamplin.

Linda Brooks Reynolds, 61, of Forest died on Jan. 7. She was the wife of Thomas Eugene Reynolds for 25 years.
Born in Lynchburg, Sept. 24, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward Brooks and the late Dorothy West Brooks.
She was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church and the retired owner/operator of Houston Personnel. She operated Blooms and Rooms, her own home-based floral and decorating business.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Lorrie Ann Bolling, her husband, Doug of Madison Heights; her brother, Steven M. Brooks, his wife, Peggy and their son, Justin, of Lynchburg; a number of aunts and uncles.
A funeral service was conducted on Jan. 10 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Lillian Elizabeth "Libby" Small, 70, of Nellysford, died on Jan. 13.
She was born Sept. 13, 1937, in Augusta County, daughter of the late Thomas and Bertha Nuckols Harris.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Elwood Small; three sisters, Hannah Lowery, Barbara Lipscomb and Diane Fauber; and a brother, Buddy Harris.
Survivors include four sons, Eddie Allen and his wife, Sherry, of Stuarts Draft, Robert Allen of Lynchburg, Steven Allen and his wife, Lisa, of Beech Grove and Glen Allen and his wife, Jenny, of Waynesboro; one grandson, Jason Allen; one granddaughter; four sisters, Juanita Lowery of Staunton, Ada Brown of Stuarts Draft, Pauline Altizor of Florida and Florence Marcus of Greenville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Jan. 17 at Rockfish Baptist Church.

Roy O'Gary Staton, 76, of Lynchburg, died on Jan. 8. He was the husband of Phyllis Wright Staton.
Born Aug. 2, 1931, in Amherst County, he was a son of the late Riley William and Ida Martin Staton. He was retired from Lem Bennington Paint Contractors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Grover L. Staton.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kathy S. Carroll, of Madison Heights and Denise S. Osborne, of Lynchburg; one son, Roy W. Staton (Janet), of Big Island; two step-sons, Tony Stinnett (Kathy) and James Stinnett (Donna), all of Madison Heights; one brother, Hope W. Staton (Carol), of Lynchburg; one sister, Matris S. Watts (Cecil), of Amherst; a sister-in-law, Georgie Staton, of Amherst; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five nieces and four nephews.
A funeral service was conducted on Jan. 11 at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel.

Jean Golladay Tucker, 76, of Lynchburg, died on Jan. 8. She was the wife of 56 years to Charlie Ralph Tucker.
Born on Oct. 13, 1931, in Nelson County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Martin Golladay and Mary Marshall Golladay. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Douglas Golladay.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, at 11th and Court in Lynchburg, for 69 years, where she volunteered in the nursery and was a member of the choir. She was also a volunteer for The American Red Cross for over 10 years.
Survivors also include a son, Charles R. Tucker and wife, Donna; a daughter, Diane T. Meeks, both of Lynchburg; sister-in-law, Carol Golladay, of Salem; three grandchildren, Wendy L. Tucker and fiancé, Dustin Ward, of Charlotte, N.C., Justin M. Tucker and Anthony S. Meeks, both of Lynchburg, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service was conducted on Jan. 11 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. Interment took place in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

William Ray Wade, 68, of Stuarts Draft, died on Jan. 12.
He was born on Aug. 4, 1939 in Lynchburg, son of the late Claude Colin and Alma Wright Wade.
He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, where he was church treasurer and soundman. He was a Marine veteran and employed at Canteen Vending Services in Verona for 40 years, where he was manager.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Rexrode Wade; three children, Rodney Dale Wade of Tampa, Fla., Nicholas Andrew Wade and his wife, Alicia, of Staunton and William Alan Amos and his wife, Sarah, of Massanutten; one brother, Claude Colin Wade Jr. and his wife, Edith, of Lynchburg; one sister, Wanda Wade of Lynchburg; and five grandchildren, Wesley Christian Wade, Nicholas Andrew Wade II, Kaleb Magnus Wade, Evelyn Morgan Wade and Madeline Elizabeth Wade.
A memorial service was conducted on Jan. 16 at Calvary United Methodist Church. A graveside service followed in the church cemetery.
