Ola Virginia Fox, 93, of Faber died on Jan. 15.
Born July 24, 1914 in Bath County, a daughter of the late Archie Edward Adams and Sallie Keyser Adams.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Franklin Fox and her sister Audrey Lee Adams.
She was a retired supervisor from the Homestead Hotel with over 35 years of service and a member of Adial Baptist Church in Faber.
She is survived by her son, Edward Alexander Fox and wife, Linda of Ingleside, Ill.; three nieces; three grandsons, Jeffrey, Greg and Stephen Fox; three great-grandsons; nine great-nieces and nephews and five great-great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Jan. 19 at the McLaughlin Funeral Home in Hot Springs. Interment in the Warm Springs Cemetery.

Maria F. Gerstl, 77, of Faber, wife of the late Hans Gerstl and mother of Hans Gerstl Jr. of Charlottesville and Brenda Becker of Hunt Valley, Md., died on Jan. 15.
She was preceded in death by her parents Maria and Josef Fojtu, as well as her brothers Josef, Hans and Rudi Fojtu.
Born in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia in 1930, she immigrated to Austria during World War II and later moved to Germany where she met her husband of 52 years.
Coming to this country with just a few dollars to their names and no knowledge of the English language, they made their way to Charlottesville in 1958 after initially spending some time in Canada and Detroit, Mich.
Together they built and operated the Schnitzelhouse Restaurant in Charlottesville. She was the chef for 10 years until they sold the business in 1980.
In 2003, when her son bought back the business, now named Ludwigs Restaurant and Lounge, she came out of "retirement" to share her family recipes with Hans Jr. and worked with him almost daily in the kitchen.
In addition to her children, she is survived by her granddaughters, Kelly and Lauren Becker of Hunt Valley, Md.; a brother, Julius Fojtu of Zell, Germany; and a number of nieces and nephews throughout Europe and the U.S.
A graveside service was held for family and friends on Jan. 19 at Monticello Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville.

Richard Russell Gooding, 52, of Springfield died on Jan. 7.
He was born on July 7, 1955 at the Pensacola Naval Hospital, Pensacola Fla.
He worked for Energy Enterprise Solutions at the U.S. Department of Energy as a network administrator. Prior to that, he worked at Bond Bebee Accounting as an information systems technician.
Early in his career, he worked in management positions at a number of Washington, D.C. area restaurants. These restaurants included Bertucci's, Black Eyed Pea, Ha Penny Lion, Chadwick's, American Café and Bullfeathers. He also worked for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company and People's Drug Store.
He was a 1973 graduate of Annandale High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from George Mason University in 1977.
He is survived by his parents, Captain Niles R. and Bonnie Gooding of Amherst and Anne M. and Patrick Flynn of Burke; one sister, Anita (Louis) Champ of Great Falls and their children, Anthony and Christina; one brother, Michael (Donna) Gooding of Virginia Beach and their children, Kate and Erik.
A memorial service was held Jan. 15 at the Church of the Nativity in Burke. Interment was private in the Gooding Family plot in Yarmouth, Maine.

Mildred Curd Hubble, 86, of Appomattox, died on Jan. 18. She was the wife of the late Simon Dennison Hubble for 62 years.
She was born Nov. 1, 1921, in Monroe, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Ara Lee Gooch Curd. She was a homemaker and a member of Monroe United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara H. Briggs and her husband, Bill, and Simone H. Manis and her husband, Randy, all of Appomattox; three sons, Simon Hubble Jr. and his wife, Sherie, of Calif., Thomas C. Hubble and his wife, Darlene, of Lake Milton, Ohio, and Jeffrey C. Hubble of Appomattox; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Hubble of Staunton and Mary Curd of Monroe; a brother-in-law, Paul Shields Sr. of Lynchburg; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many special friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Patrick L. Hubble; two sisters, Ida Mae Curd Driskill and Ruth Shields; and a brother, William T. Curd Sr.
A funeral service was conducted at Zion Methodist Church in Nebo on Jan. 22. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Christopher Blaine Kidd, 44, of Laurel Road, Shipman died on Jan. 14.
Born Sept. 18, 1963 in Alexandria, he was a son of Robert H. Kidd and the late Winifred Stockes Kidd.
In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by a brother, William R. Kidd and a sister, Dana Kidd Tickle.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Campbell Kidd; his father, Robert H. Kidd and wife, Dianne of Alexandria; a brother, Michael R. Kidd of Woodbridge; and two sisters, Susan Tarman and husband, Tony of Alexandria and Valerie Morency of Edgewood, Md.
A memorial service was held on Jan. 19 at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel in Lovingston.

Richard Zane "Dick" Koon, 82, originally of Zanesville, Ohio and formerly of Englewood, Fla. and recently of Afton, died on Dec. 8.
A memorial service will be conducted on Jan. 25 at 2:00 p.m. from the Rockfish Presbyterian Church. Following the memorial service at the church, the family will host a reception to celebrate his life. Interment will be held private and at a later date.

Lewis Dove Morris, 73, of Hamilton, died on Jan. 18.
He was employed by C & P Telephone Company as a cable splicer technician.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Elizabeth Thacker Morris and his parents, William Hansford Morris and Mildred Bibb Morris.
He is survived by three sons, L. Wayne Morris (Lorretta) of Leesburg, Kenneth James Morris (Nancy) and Robert Gerald Morris (Mary), both of Winchester; a daughter, Linda Morris Washabaugh (Bradford), of Cary, N.C.; three sisters, Francis M. Kidd, Ida M. Carter and Nettie Ann Harlow, all of Arrington; five grandchildren, Alyssa N. Morris, Shannon M. Morris, both of Leesburg, Brooke I. Washabaugh, Brandon M. Washabaugh, both of Cary, N.C., and Ivan D. McClure of Winchester.
A funeral service was held on Jan. 23 at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg. A graveside funeral service will be held on Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. in Bethel Cemetery in Arrington.

Lillian Elizabeth "Libby" Small, 70, of Nellysford, died on Jan. 13.
She was born Sept. 13, 1937 in Augusta County, daughter of the late Thomas and Bertha Nuckols Harris.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Elwood Small; three sisters, Hannah Lowery, Barbara Lipscomb, Diane Fauber and a brother, Buddy Harris.
Survivors include four sons, Eddie Allen and his wife Sherry of Stuarts Draft, Robert Allen of Lynchburg, Steven Allen and his wife Lisa of Beech Grove and Glen Allen and his wife Jenny of Waynesboro; one grandson, Jason Allen; one granddaughter; four sisters, Juanita Lowery of Staunton, Ada Brown of Stuarts Draft, Pauline Altizor of Fla. and Florence Marcus of Greenville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was conducted on Jan. 17 at Rockfish  Baptist Church.

Rosie Martin "Granny" Snead, 84 of Schuyler, died on Jan. 14.
Born July 29, 1923 in Nelson County, she was the daughter of the late Junie and Sissie Martin. 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Herman Snead and John L. Snead and her brother John Martin.
She owned and operated S&H Grocery for 18 years, better known as Ike Godsey's Grocery Store.
She is survived by four daughters, Christine Williams and husband Clarence of Oklahoma City, Okla., Joyce Smith and husband Duane of Charlottesville, Louise Banton and husband Dale of Schuyler, and Jane Evans and husband Steve of Schuyler; two sons, Herman Snead and wife Linda of Schuyler and Johnny Snead and wife Sue of Schuyler; one sister, Ethel Thompson and husband Melvin of Faber; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous loving friends and relatives.
A funeral service was conducted on Jan. 18 at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel.  Interment followed at the Snead family cemetery in Schuyler.

Lucille Sims Williams, 88, of Tyro, died on Jan. 16.
Born in Hosmer (Charlotte County) on Sept. 5, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Frank Gibbs Sims and Bessie Young Smith Sims. She was a member of Jonesboro Baptist Churhc and had retired as a nurse with Westminister-Canterbury.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Edward Lee Williams of Tyro; two sons, Frank M. Williams and his wife, Martha, of Monroe, and Edward L. Williams Jr. of Granbury, Texas; one daughter, Donna Fitzgerald and her husband, Tommy, of Tyro; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was conducted at Jonesboro Baptist Church on Jan. 19. Burial was in Jonesboro Cemetery.

William "Bill" Leonidas Woody, 73, of Pamplin, died on Jan. 17. He was the husband of Erma Shelton Woody.
Born Dec. 23, 1934, in Nelson County, he was a son of the late James Edward Woody Sr. and Glendola Catron Woody Carter.
He was a member of Rocks Baptist Church, where he served as a choir member, Deacon and member of the Cemetery Committee and was a former member of the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department. He was a retired assistant manager of CVS Pharmacy in Farmville, formerly Gray's Drug Store, and was currently employed by Appomattox Drug Store.
He is survived by two brothers and two sisters, James E. Woody Jr. and his wife, Phyllis, Hazel Thomas, Hilda Massey and Roy E. Woody and his wife, Iris; a step-brother, Samuel E. Carter and his wife, Dorothy, all of Appomattox; numerous nieces and nephews; and an uncle, Lawrence E. Woody Jr., of Appomattox.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary W. Smith.
Funeral services were held on Jan. 20 at Rocks Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
