Arthur Matthew Beverly Sr., 84, of 85 Beulah Drive, Raphine, died on Feb. 25.
He was born March 28, 1923, in Nelson County, a son of the late Roosevelt and Bertha Irine (Minter) Beverly.
He was a veteran of the Army Air Force having served during World War II as a Military Police and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Ribbon, and the American Theater Ribbon. He was employed by DuPont for 21 years. In 1972 he moved to Florida and started a lawn care business. He was a member of Valley Baptist Church and volunteered assisting disabled veterans.
Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Arthur M. Beverly Jr., of Altamont Springs, Fla., David R. Beverly and his friend, Jane Freeman, of Auburndale, Fla., and Steven W. and Mattie Beverly of Kissimmee, Fla.; two daughters, Shirley Jean Willetts and her husband, Dale, of Williamsburg and Carolyn B. Steele and her husband, Robert  of Stuarts Draft; a daughter-in-law, Sandy H. Beverly of Batesburg, S.C.; two brothers, Albert Beverly of Swoope and Charles Beverly of Shipman; four sisters, Myrtle Hudson of Durham, N.C., Estelle Dean of Keswick, Nellie Taylor of Ga., and Laura Cheney of South Boston; seven grandchildren, Jeff Harris, Steven Bo Beverly, Chastity Beverly, Christopher Beverly, Tracey Beverly, Jennifer Beverly, and Steven Beverly; several great grandchildren; the mother of his children, Geneva W. Eaves of South Haven, Miss.; along with many friends.
He was preceded in death by a son.
A graveside service was conducted on Feb. 29 in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Garden.

Sara Steele Ott, of Nellysford, Virginia, died peacefully at Martha Jefferson Hospital on Friday, February 29, 2008, at the age of 74.
Sara lived in Little Rock all of her childhood with her loving and adoptive parents, Hudson and Gladys Steele. After graduating from Little Rock Senior High School, she attended and graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1955, with a BSBA. She was an assistant buyer with the Foley Brothers Department Store in Houston Texas in 1955. Soon after, she married Frank Ott, whom she had known since she was seven years old.
Sara and Frank began their life together in the corporate world of J.C. Penney's. Along the way they had three daughters, Missy, Steele and Robin, during their 24 moves.
Sara was invited to join the Junior League in Alexandria, Louisiana in 1962. She was a member of the Atlanta Junior Women's Club and served as president of many of her Pi Beta Phi alumnae clubs throughout the years. Sara reached her potential as a volunteer after Frank retired in 1994.
Sara and Frank moved full-time to Wintergreen, Nellysford, Virginia in March of 1995. Together they founded the Wintergreen Nature Foundation (TWNF) Golf Classic in 1994. Frank stepped back to let her shine as she took the reins and turned the annual charity event into a success. In 1996, Sara also founded the Festival of Trees benefiting the TWNF of which occurs every Thanksgiving week at Wintergreen. She may have left us for now but her smile will be with us forever.
She is survived by her best friend and husband of 52 years, Frank; three daughters, Missy Ott Magee and her friend, Ray Bateman, Steele Ott Wetherill and her husband, John Wetherill, Robin Ott; five grandchildren, Steven, Max, Michael, Hudson and her adorable little Emma; and two dogs that stayed by her side, Clyde and Beamer.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, March 3, 2008, at the Mountain Inn at Wintergreen.

Paul Harris Shelton Sr., 83 of Stagebridge Road, Lovingston died on Feb. 24.
He was born on June 12, 1924 in Nelson County, a son of the late Lucas Farrar and Effie Harris Shelton.
He was raised on his family's farm on Stagebridge Road, served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 on the Troop Carrier USS Hermitage. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lovingston.  He was a member of Fleetwood Harmony Lodge #92 AF&AM of Lovingston, member of Arlington Royal Arch Chapter, former Worshipful Master of Concord Lodge #307 of Vienna, the Scottish Rites of Free Masonry of Alexandria, a 50-year member of American Legend Post #0177 of Fairfax, and commander of VFW Post #7701 of Colleen. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He retired from Davis H. Elliott Electrical Company of Roanoke as Safety Director and worked in the electrical field for over 40 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Ann Bibb Shelton; his children, Pauline Shelton Kendall and her husband Don of Port Charlotte, Fla., Patricia Shelton Berberich and her husband Robert Lewis of Colonial Heights, Larry Elmo Shelton of Centreville, and Paul Harris Shelton Jr. and his wife Susan of Johnson City, Tenn; his grandchildren, Adam O'Neil Shelton, Robert Lewis Berberich Jr., Megan Danielle Shelton, Theodore Shelton Berberich, Molly Kathleen Shelton, and Angela Marie Shelton; two great grandchildren Briana; his brother, Robert Lucas Shelton of Lovingston; and his sisters, Marian Schilling of Pasadena, Calif., and Audrey Coupe of Dublin, Calif.
A funeral service was held on Feb. 29 at Calvary Baptist Church in Lovingston. Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery at Arrington. Military rites were accorded at the graveside by VFW Post #7701 of Colleen and Masonic rites were accorded on Feb. 28 at Calvary Baptist Church.
