Homer Clark Barnett I
Homer Clark Barnett I, 74, of Roseland, died on June 26.
Born June 13, 1934, he was the son of the late James Titus and Ella Hill Barnett. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Tyro, and was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lecie Toms Barnett; four sons, Homer (Tony) Barnett II of Roseland, Estrello and Lucas Barnett of Lynchburg, and Brion Barnett of Amherst; one daughter, Tamara Barnett of Madison Heights; two devoted daughter-in-laws, Tammy T. and Brenda L. Barnett; nine grandchildren, Simone, Kelsey, Homer (Lil’ Tony) Barnett III, Alcindor, Myra, Jeremiah, Zachary, Tamela and Ashleigh; three great grandchildren, Diamond, Xavier and Tre; one half brother, Andrew Barnett of Roseland; seven sisters-in-law, Sarah Thompson, Emma Jackson, Belle Thomas, Nancy Carter, Ruth, Regina and Bertha Toms; five brothers-in-law, Matthew, Reginald, and Ira Toms, Isaiah Thompson, and Leonard Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Santresa C. Barnett; one sister, Maxine, and six brothers, Arthur, Edgar, Albert, Talmadge, Elmore and Nathaniel.
A funeral service was conducted on July 1 at Oak Hill Baptist Church in Roseland. Burial followed in Oak Hill Memorial Gardens with military honors by VFW Post #7701 of Colleen.

Charles Bell
Charles “Charlie” Bell, 64, of Crozet, died on June 24.
He was born on Feb. 27, 1944, in Alabama to the late Richard and Inez Bell.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Donald Bell.
He is survived by his daughter, Dawn M. Isner and her husband, Scott, of Glen Allen; two grandsons, Nathan and Samuel Isner; one sister, Frances DeLeone and her husband, Jim, of Arlington Heights, Ill.; one brother, Clyde Bell of Birmingham, Ala.; and a beloved companion of 30 years, Ella Jo Yancey of Charlottesville.
He was employed and a volunteer with Mountainside Senior Living. He was the owner of many former local restaurants, one of them being the Cavalier Diner on the corner.
He was employed for many years with Big Jim’s and went to college at Columbia Broadcasting School and became a DJ.
A memorial service was held on June 28 at Teague Funeral Home Chapel.

Shirley Cobb Eubank
Shirley Cobb Eubank, 79, of Port St. Lucie, Fla. died on June 23.
She was born in Nelson County, on Feb. 24, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Sidney R. and Geneva G. Cobb.  She was a graduate of Buckingham Central High School in 1946. She was a devoted homemaker. She lived most of her life at 4512 Golf Park Drive in Lynchburg. She was a member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church and Soran Bible Class. She was a member of the Fort Hill Junior Woman’s Club and Fort Hill Woman’s Club. She served as first lady of the Virginia Elks Association in 1996-1997. She moved to Port Saint Lucie, Fla. with her husband in 2000.
She is survived by her husband, Richard A. Eubank of Port Saint Lucie; her three children, Richard S. Eubank, Sandra Eubank and Jeffrey A. Eubank of Port Saint Lucie; three grandchildren, Deidre Hammack of PPort Saint Lucie, Chad Hammack of Manakin Sabot, and Shannon Eubank of Evington; brother, Hugh A. Cobb and sister-in-law Jenny H. Cobb of Millsboro, Del.; friends and numerous nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on June 28 in Chestnut Hill Baptist Church.

Robert Giles Sr.
Robert Giles Sr., 85, of Newark, N.J., died on June 25.
Born in Nelson County, he was a son of the late Sarah Giles and Charlie Bowling.
He was raised by his step-brother, Johnnie Johnson. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church of New Jersey and also Little Zion Baptist Church in Nelson County. He was a construction worker for Local 147 of New York, Local 420 of Philadelphia, Local 472 of New Jersey and Connecticut Construction Company Local Union.
He is survived by his wife, Janie McKenzie Giles; five daughters, Sabrena Giles and Sandra Giles of Tampa, Fla.; Brenda Giles, Bernadine Matthews and Shirley Stewart, all of Philadelphia, Penn.; four sons, Robert Giles Jr. of Orlando, Fla., Mark Giles of Philadelphia, Willie Gunter of Virginia Beach and Joseph Cidipoli of Newark, N.J.; God-daughter, Swanda Ortiz of Plainfield, N.J.; five sisters, Edith Paige and Arlean Meredith of Arrington, Juanita Berry, Doris Taylor and Cora Mae Streat, all of Maryland; three brothers, Mel Bowling of Fredericksburg, Edward Johnson and McArthur Johnson, both of Arrington; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service was conducted on July 2 at Little Zion Baptist Church. Burial followed in Little Zion Cemetery.

Paula Yvette Goines
Paula Yvette Goines, 38, of Charlottesville, died on June 19.
She was born on Feb. 16, 1970, in Charlottesville, the daughter of the Melvin Douglas Goines and the late Frances Louise Smith.
In addition to her father she is survived by a son, Taron Carter; two daughters, Tileen Carr and Ranishia Crenshaw of Charlottesville; a sister, Pamela Goines of Charlottesville; two aunts, Nancy Smith of Charlottesville and Delores Green and her husband, Calvin, of Roseland; three uncles, Dennis Johnson, Marcus Johnson and his wife, Lesa, and Fred Johnson, all of Arvonia; and a host of relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held on June 27 at the J.F. Bell Funeral Home Chapel in Charlottesville. A private interment will be held at a later date.

Virginia Brice Kelley
Virginia Brice Kelley, 84, of Scottsville, died on June 26.
She was born on May 23, 1924, the daughter of the late Charlie and Katie Brice. She was a member of Union Baptist Church Shores in Palmyra. In her early years she worked at Lumkins Restaurant in Scottsville, as a waitress, and the Fluvanna County School System as a cafeteria worker. She was employed by the Green Thumb Program as an aide at Cunningham Elementary School where she retired.
She is survived by two brothers, Leslie Brice of Palmyra, and James Brice of Akron, Ohio; two children, Phillip Kelley Jr. and Bertha Armstrong, both of Fork Union; four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral was held on July 1 at Union Baptist Church Shores in Palmyra. Interment followed at the church cemetery.

Steven Craig Love Sr.
Steven Craig Love Sr., 57, of 2980 Red House Road, Phenix (Rough Creek), died on June 26. He was the husband of June Baldwin Love.
Born Jan. 14, 1951, in Asheville, N.C., he was the son of the late Joseph Franklin Love and Elizabeth Garrett Love of Buckingham.
He was a Vietnam War veteran. He was a member of the Hurt and Proffit Family.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, June Baldwin Love; three children, Steven Craig Love Jr., Mandi Love Galloway (John) of Richmond and Jennifer West Williams (Sam) of Red House; his grandchildren, Braden Garrett Williams, Sydney June Williams, James Edwin Galloway and Joseph Hall Galloway; his brother, Gary Love (Chris) of Buckingham; and a sister, Rosemary of Gladstone. Survivors also include a sister-in-law, Janice Davis of Appomattox; a brother-in-law, Wiley Baldwin of Pamplin; numerous nieces and nephews; and many from the Rough Creek neighborhood.
Funeral services were conducted on June 29 at Rough Creek Presbyterian Church, with interment in the church cemetery.

Elmer Earl Myrtle
Elmer Earl Myrtle, 79, husband of Audrey (Moyer) Myrtle, of Tanbark Drive, Afton, and formerly of Lofton, died on June 25.
He was born on April 1, 1929, in Sewell, W.Va., a son of the late William Dunn and Sadie Austin (Lotts) Myrtle.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Pines Chapel Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his first wife, Mary Belle (Lawhorn) Myrtle who preceded him in death on July 2, 1998, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Billy B. Myrtle and Paul A. Myrtle; and an infant sister and brother.
In addition to his wife, family members include a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Phyllis Myrtle of Raphine; three daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Donnie Harris of Greenville, Amy and Larry Campbell of Staunton, and Donna and Douglas Boxley of Waynesboro; step children, Genevieve and Dale Black, Nelson and Linda Moyer, and Larry and Georgia Moyer; two nieces; eight grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; four step-grand-children; six step great-grand-children; and friends.
A funeral service was conducted on June 28 at the Henry Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Graveside rites were conducted by the Steeles Tavern VFW Post 8279.

Frances Riggio Ryan
Frances Riggio Ryan, 81, of Lake Monticello, and formerly of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., died on June 23.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Sept. 5, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Rosario Riggio and Mary Piacente Riggio.
She was a gifted homemaker throughout her life and volunteered as a Girl Scout leader for many years in Yorktown Heights. A devout Catholic, she was active in St. Peter and Paul Parish in Palmyra, where she served on the Ministry of Praise.
Her husband of 44 years, John Francis Ryan Jr., died in 2005.
She is survived by two daughters, Lisa Ryan Whiting and her husband, Claude, of Centreville; and Maribeth Ryan Miller and her husband, Randall, of Bear, Del.; sister, Anne Migliore and her husband, Salvatore. of Edison, N.J.; brother, Roy Riggio and his wife, Barbara, of New Canaan, Conn.; six grandchildren, Jennifer Whiting, Matthew Whiting, Melissa Whiting, Nicholas Miller, Rebecca Miller and Gregory Miller; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on June 30 at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. 
A committal service was held on July 1 at Holly Memorial Gardens, 3251 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville.

Mathew Benjamin Thomas
Mathew Benjamin Thomas, 22, of North Garden, died on June 28.
He was born July 17, 1985, in Charlottesville, to Benjamin Robert Thomas and Phyllis Roberts Thomas.
He was raised and worked on the Thomas Dairy Farm in North Garden. He played baseball in his early years at Cove Creek Ball Park in Covesville. He graduated from Monticello High School in 2002. He was a member and raced AMA Motorcross, racing from 1994 to 2006. He was a student at CATEC Adult Education, entering his fourth year of HVAC. He was employed the last four years with Curtis Heating and Air in Crozet.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather, James Wilber Roberts; and a paternal grandfather, Stanley Baxter Thomas.
He is survived by his parents, Benjamin Robert Thomas and Phyllis Roberts Thomas of North Garden; two sisters, Heather Lee Thomas of North Garden and Jacqueline Thomas Strome and her husband, Benjamin, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; maternal grandmother, Evelyn Page Roberts of North Garden; and paternal grandmother, Doris Jean Thomas of North Garden.
In addition he is survived by his aunts and uncles, Charlotte and Dan Honeycutt of Charlottesville, Jill and Kenneth Wilkerson of Stuarts Draft, Paul and Laura Thomas of Charlottesville, Patty Stewart of North Garden, Bill and Lisa Thomas of New York, and Andrew and Tara Thomas of Ruckersville; and 10 cousins.
A memorial service was held on July 2 at Trinity United Methodist Church in North Garden.
