Vote your morals

You’re not in the voting booth alone.

I looked up the percentage of Americans who say they’re Christian, and it’s 83 percent. Well, when you go in the voting booth and vote, you are held accountable for who you vote for. You will not be judged on Social Security — God will supply all of your needs. But you will be held accountable if you put someone in office who believes in same-sex marriages (which is an abomination to the Lord) and killing unborn babies.

How can America expect to be blessed? It is as bad as Sodom and Gomorrah. And 83 percent of Americans know what happened there.

So please don’t vote parties, vote morals. Our children’s and grandchildren’s futures depend on it. Remember, you 83 percent of Americans, you’re not in the voting booth alone. If you are, God have mercy on your soul.

The candidates’ views

The Oct. 23 edition the Nelson County Times had two commentary candidate columns, one by Tom Perriello and one by Virgil Goode.

What a breath of fresh air Tom Perriello is. His column was all about protecting the Second Amendment and his promise to protect the citizens’ rights to bear arms.

He then goes on to explain how the citizen should help to protect those rights. Being responsible when using guns and teaching the children how to safely use those guns. It is every citizen’s responsibility to protect the Second Amendment. Perriello’s message to me meant that when there is not abuse, there is no reason to write laws that take away citizens’ rights.

Virgil Goode’s column was about speculation and assumptions that “illegal immigrants” were benefiting from the bailout plan that Congress just passed.

If there were a debate today, my question to Goode would be, “If you are an illegal immigrant buying a home, would you invite law enforcement into your living room by defaulting on that mortgage?”

Here is some information another individual complied.
Here is part of the Goode ol’boys network in the 5th District.  Blair Construction, American National Bankshares and Mr. Gigmac of the North Theatre Project. The company that did the North Theatre renovations in 2004 is Blair Construction.  Well, Mr. Blair is a Goode contributor and Mr. Gignac formerly of the North Theatre project is a bigger contributor. Blair has received tens of millions of municipal and school contracts mostly in the 5th District. Another big link tying to Goode is that Blair is on the board of American National Bankshares.  Nearly all of those guys contributed to Goode and Republicans. Timothy J. Clark was the project manager on North Theatre along with many of the other Blair projects.                                                        Here is a fraction of the contracts Blair Construction has been awarded over the years.

ordie, I agree that Tom Perriello was the obvious winner in the debates.  I attended the first and heard the second on podcast.  While Goode focuses on blaming Democrats and immigrants for all of our problems, Perriello proposes ideas that realistically address the three big Es of this campaign: Employment, Energy, and the Economy.

I did hear that Duncan resigned for health reasons – perhaps he is just sick and tired of working for someone whose primary constituent is himself, as is evidenced by Goode’s dependence on lobbyists to fund his campaign.

Goode’s time has past.  Although he has many devoted friends in the 5th district, the voters need to recognize that he is out of touch with the important issues affecting us all.  Let us hope tha, on November 4th, we elect Tom Perriello who has demonstrated his knowledge of the issues and his commitment to address them as our Congressman.

JJ Towler the debate in Cville and the news reports from the 2nd Perriello and Goode debates, Tom knocked Virgil out of the park.
It was quite understandable that he would cancel the TV debate and blame it on Duncan.
Did you hear Duncan resigned as his press secretary? Seems that “Eden’s Curve” and Duncan’s secret life style is getting in the way in this election.
It is a shame the NCT’s is so shortsighted and Pro-Republican that they would endorse this sleeze bag Bigot.

On October 29, 2008, Gordon Koerner of Shipman offered an intelligent and insightful comparison of Virgil Goode and Tom Perriello.  What a shame Goode canceled his televised debate which would have presented the opportunity for a vastly larger number of voters to draw their own conclusions.  Let’s examine, in Goode’s own words, his perspective on this cancelled debate:

On Sunday, October 12, 2008, a Letter to the Editor from Virgil Goode was published in the Martinsville Bulletin concerning cancellation of the Perriello - Goode debate scheduled to be televised Tuesday, October 7, on Charlottesville’s Channel 29.  Mr. Goode wrote, “The debate was not canceled. It was never scheduled by me.”

In consulting with Channel 29, I received an email from the news director which states, “Mr. Goode’s campaign manager confirmed the debate for us during the first week in September. One week before the debate was supposed to take place, Mr. Goode informed us that he had a conflict with that date (despite having the date in writing since April)…”

Mr. Goode’s letter continues, “I have done one debate in Charlottesville with the Senior Statesman. I have done one debate with the Sorenson Institute at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research. I want to do another debate so that we will have three debates, which is the same number being done by the presidential candidates.”

What kind of math is Mr. Goode doing that he suggests his 3 debates before small, localized audiences are EQUAL to 3 televised presidential debates which are available to be seen by millions of people?  The truth is Mr. Goode cowers at a televised debate because the larger audience would surely witness his shrill bigotry and erroneous accusations as were conspicuously evident in the first two debates.  Mr. Goode’s campaign, heavily funded by lobbyists, preys on the fearful and ill-informed, as depicted by Goode’s recent ominous TV ad which portrays his opponent as a terrorist.

Tom Perriello, born and raised in Virginia, accepts no money from lobbyists and, if elected, would truly represent the people of this district.  His platform presents intelligent, honest, articulate proposals which would greatly benefit the 5th District.

Cheryl Campbell, I respect your right to be a Christian and your beliefs, but when you use the bible, God’s instrument for us to use in judging our own lives, then turn it around to judge others in the voting booth is truly going against God’s lessons to each individual.
You should go read Romans 2-1. It tells you that when you judge others you are playing God.
