Dogs attack 11-year-old girl

Nelson County Animal Control Officers are still investigating the attack of an 11-year old Tye River girl on Oct. 12 by five pit bull- and Chihuahua-mix puppies while she was jogging along Walkers Mountain Road in Arrington.

Nelson County Animal Control Officer Sandy Solar said the girl suffered multiple bite wounds and scratches from the 8-month old dogs, which are now in the custody of animal control.

The girl was taken to UVa Medical Center and released later that day.

Solar said a neighbor driving by stopped the attack.

The dogs are owned by a Walkers Mountain Road resident, were not licensed and had no rabies shots or vaccines, Solar said.
