On the state meet:
Long jump, I jumped 15-08, my best jump all season. Triple jump, I haven't jumped all season. I was like, I'm not even going to go that hard, because I might scratch. And I won. I knew how to do it. Me and Kate Collins, we just went over it. I got my steps ready. I like triple jump better than long jump. You hop three times. It's really hard. It's really cool, too.
For the 4 by 200, one of our top runners, Megan Graves, she was really sick so we had to replace her with (distance runner) Megan Campbell. We got second, neck and neck with Appomattox.
On the indoor season:
This year has been really tough for us, with the whole coach thing. We had like 10 meets, but they were all invitationals with AA schools, big competition. (The state meet) was only 10 schools. I hadn't practiced in a long time. But the girls won. It was tough to beat Appomattox.
And getting ready for outdoor:
We're all pumped for outdoor. Outdoor is so much better. I like indoor, but not as much as I did last year. I'll do the 100, 200, long jump, triple jump and the 4 by 100. There's some tough competition out there.
On her toughest competitor:
Marissa Thompson from Chatham. She plays basketball, so she'll be back for outdoor. She's not that much faster than me, it just kills me that she always beats people.
On playing soccer this spring:
I'm going to split time with soccer and outdoor track. (I play) forward. They put me up there. I can get to the ball, but it's hard to do something with the ball. I got a little better over the season, but I'm ready.
On her little sister, Brittney:
She's a sophomore. She's not a sprinter like I am. She runs the 400, so it's not really a competition between us. She got everything from me. I teach her some things. She's a good runner.
I don't know how to put it, but we kind of have the same personalities, when we joke around together. But other people say we're so different. I think its cool that we do the same sports.
On giving it her all:
When I'm about to die, that's when I know. I try to give it my all every time I run. When I'm on the ground, about to pass out, that's when I know I've given it my all.
On her role in the school play, Guys & Dolls:
I'm a hotbox girl. They're like dancers. Adelaide, she's the star of the show, we're her dancers. She's the top character. We just dance and strip. Well, one of our dance numbers we wear this dress with Velcro, and underneath we have on leotards. We had to practice it, and I was like "Oh, God." We sing while we dance.
It's like gamblers, like Chicago, New York-type. It's not a comedy. It's a type of love story. It's a really cool play.
